Indigenous artwork from the famous Bábbarra Women’s Centre in Arnhem Land, Australia, where thousands of years of art are translated into fabric with a thoroughly unique artistry. I love this. SOOO much!
The Helen Kaminski Bábbarra Amber Sky Hat is truly special. In partnership with Bábbarra Designs, artist Raylene Bonson has created a unique print depicting Marebu. The design comes from her mother’s side and is a special Kuninjku story.
A Marebu is a handwoven mat made of Pandanus, a palm-like tree, and often coloured with natural dyes. It is an important multi use item serving practical and ceremonial purposes. Each length of fabric has been screen printed by hand in Melbourne, Australia.

Cleaning
Fabric hat care may differ depending on the fabric composition. Some styles are hand washable while others should be taken to a specialist and dry-cleaned. Always follow the care & content instructions for your hats before proceeding with any cleaning. Cleaning a hat by hand is generally the most effective way. Follow the steps outlined below:
Reshaping
To restore hats to their original best shape, use the steam from an iron or clothes steamer to carefully reshape a crushed hat. Be careful not to over-steam or the entire hat can lose its shape. Steaming can also assist with cleaning your hat as it loosens up dirt and allows you to brush off carefully using a soft-bristled brush.
If in the unfortunate circumstance you and your hat are caught in the rain, shake off excess water and stuff the crown using a clean white cloth or plain white tissue paper to help the hat hold its shape as it dries. Allow to air dry away from direct heat or sunlight. Be sure that the hat is completely dry before storing.
Longevity
To keep your hat looking it’s very best and in turn, extend its life, use a soft bristle brush or lint roller regularly to remove dust and lint. Slowly, workaround the hat, brushing with the grain of the fabric and taking care not to damage the trim or decorative embellishments. Where possible, remove trims to make brushing the hat more seamless.
